'You are what you eat' wins art contest for Summer Feeding Program

The Child Nutrition Program (CNP) is providing lunches through the Summer Food Service Program this summer. This year we have added something new: four buses that will travel to different schools delivering lunches. The CNP recently held a contest to name and design the buses asking students to send in pictures, sayings and names for the buses. All MCPSS juniors to take the ACT on Wednesday for free

All juniors in Mobile County public high schools will take the ACT college entrance exam free of charge on Wednesday, April 23. There will be a make-up test on May 7, but we encourage all juniors to come to school on the 23rd  on time and prepared to take the test. We hope you will get a good night’s rest and eat breakfast, which is now available for free at all MCPSS schools. Gov. Robert Bentley visits Kate Shepard Elementary

Five hours after signing the state’s education budget, Gov. Robert Bentley visited Kate Shepard Elementary School in Mobile. A supporter of pre-kindergarten education, he said he wanted to see some of MCPSS’s pre-K programs. So he and members of his staff visited two blended pre-K classes at Shepard that have a mix of special-education and non-special-education students. Clark-Shaw students ace at the State Science Fair

Congratulations are awarded to the Clark-Shaw Magnet students for winning more awards than any middle school in South Alabama!  Not only did the school represent with the largest amount of students, but every Clark student placed, with most receiving multiple awards.Student Ryan Corob won The Kids Discovery Award for the ability to communicate science, and a Broadcom Award which is an all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. Phillips Prep student wins 1st in Environmental at the Alabama Science Fair

Carly Alexander, 7th grader at Phillips Preparatory School, placed first at the 2014 Alabama Science and Engineering Fair (ASEF) in the Environmental category, Junior Division, and won a $50 award from UAH/ASEF. Carly's project is titled "Building Beaches". She studied the erosional rates due to normal wave action on 4 different beach compositions- fine sand, coarse sand, pea gravel, and a layered beach profile of pea gravel over fine sand. Howard students hold court

On Friday, April 4th, students at Florence Howard culminated this year's Big Brother, Big Sister (BBBS) program with a field trip. The "Littles" (Students) were able to go see where their "Bigs" (Big Brothers and Sisters) worked.  After a pizza lunch provided by BBBS, students toured legal offices in the RSA Tower, Renaissance Plaza, U.S. Attorney's Office and District Attorney's office.  Some students even participated in a mock trial, facilitated by District Attorney Ashley Rich. ...

Airbus distributes coloring book about Aerospace in Mobile

“I know about Airbus," an E.R.       Congratulations to Blount High School students, Carltoria Wallace and Latrice Campbell. The girls recently competed in the DECA State Competition in Birmingham Alabama. Carltoria placed second in Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling Event and Latrice placed second in Hotel and Lodging Management Series. Baker wins Jubilee BEST's competition

Baker High School won first place against other area high schools in the Jubilee BEST's Spring Competition. Baker students presented with their robotic inventions in a timeframe of 8 weeks to modify their robot from the fall competition.  In addition, their presentations had to be similar to those given on the Shark Tank, where investors offer money to help in the advancement of the product.  Judges offered Baker $2.2 million dollars of pretend  money and...

Murphy JROTC places in National Drill Championship

Congratulations to the Murphy Lady Blue Panthers and the Murphy Prowling Panthers Drill Teams. The student/cadets competed in the 2014 Army National Drill Classic Championships at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Kentucky this past weekend. Murphy's Female Unarmed Drill Team and Armed Male Drill Team placed eighth (8th) overall in this National event respectively.
